Ma-el-Ainin Lakhal, deputy permanent representative of the Sahrawi Republic to the African Union, described the overwhelming approval of a UN Fourth Committee resolution on Western Sahara as a victory for international legitimacy. He stated that the resolution, passed with 152 votes in favor, reinforces the status of the territory as a decolonization issue. The diplomat emphasized that no political solution can be considered viable or sustainable unless it guarantees the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination, noting that the vote reflects a clear international stance against colonial practices.
