Algerian Diplomacy: Commitment to International Law and Self-Determination

Marking National Diplomacy Day, Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, reiterated Algeria's steadfast commitment to international legality and the right of peoples to self-determination. He warned against the decline of multilateralism and the selective application of international law, which undermine the credibility of global institutions. Regarding the Sahel, Attaf emphasized that regional stability requires more than security measures; it demands a focus on economic development, energy cooperation, and infrastructure connectivity. On the Western Sahara issue, Algeria rejected attempts to reframe it merely as a refugee crisis, insisting it remains a fundamental matter of decolonization. Furthermore, the Minister affirmed Algeria's full support for a sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and urged the international community to act. He also expressed solidarity with Gulf nations, calling for dialogue and restraint to resolve ongoing regional conflicts.
