Online fraud in Algeria has evolved into sophisticated scams that exploit public trust in official financial institutions and state services. Perpetrators now use fake commercial websites and deceptive phone calls to manipulate victims into revealing banking verification codes, leading to significant financial losses. One recorded incident involved a victim losing 200,000 dinars after interacting with a fraudulent site masquerading as a reputable company. In response, a national awareness campaign took place from October 25th to 30th to warn the public about these evolving threats. Consumer protection experts argue that the solution requires more than just individual vigilance; financial institutions and e-service providers must enhance their fraud detection systems and take greater responsibility for securing customer transactions as digital payment usage continues to grow.
