Trump announces surprise deal with Putin to boost diesel supplies

President Donald Trump has announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to supply large quantities of diesel to both the American and global markets. The deal includes an immediate delivery of 300,000 tons, followed by 500,000 tons in November, and an additional million tons, with potential to reach 3 million tons depending on refinery capacity. Trump emphasized that this move aims to lower fuel costs, which have risen by 70% amid ongoing global conflicts. The Kremlin confirmed that the phone call also covered the Ukraine crisis, the Iranian file, and intelligence coordination. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the arrangement, describing it as an investment in the war. Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury has issued temporary licenses for these imports as the administration faces intense pressure to curb fuel prices ahead of upcoming elections.
