At an international conference in Tlemcen, participants highlighted the critical role of modern technology in protecting transboundary waterways. Abderrahim Bedraoui from the National Agency for Integrated Water Resources Management explained that digital modeling and AI-driven monitoring are essential to tracking pollution. The impact of cross-border contamination was illustrated by the Hammam Boughrara dam, where 45 tons of dead fish were recovered in late 2024 due to pollutants arriving from the western border. Officials emphasized that rigorous water sampling is ongoing to safeguard the water supply for local residents. Academics and international experts, including Hani Abdelaziz Al-Chimi and Faten Atik Bahr, advocated for enhanced regional cooperation, noting Algeria's significant advancements in seawater desalination and water resource management as a model for shared security.
