CAF reverts to biennial AFCON format, dropping four-year cycle plans
The Confederation of African Football has announced a unanimous decision by its executive committee to revert to organizing the Africa Cup of Nations every two years. This move officially abandons the previously planned transition to a four-year cycle. CAF President Patrice Motsepe stated that this change is intended to protect the interests of African football and its players. Motsepe explained that the delay is due to concerns regarding the revenue potential of the proposed African Nations League. Additionally, the federation confirmed that the 2027 edition will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, with subsequent tournaments scheduled for 2028, 2031, and 2033.
