Bayer is looking to expand its footprint in the Algerian agricultural sector by testing hybrid corn seeds, aiming to cultivate 5,000 hectares over the next five years. Field trials, which began in 2026, are currently underway in desert regions utilizing center-pivot irrigation systems to evaluate crop resilience. Amina Lakima, head of agricultural sciences for North Africa, indicated that the company’s priority is developing varieties tailored to local climate conditions, specifically addressing drought and water scarcity. The strategy incorporates scientific research and digital tools, such as artificial intelligence, to enhance crop protection and boost agricultural productivity in the region.
