Western Sahara: Large-scale protests demand self-determination
Massive popular demonstrations took place this Monday in the Laâyoune wilaya within the Sahrawi refugee camps, calling for a just settlement under United Nations auspices to secure the right to independence and self-determination. Protesters rejected any initiatives that deviate from international legality, waving national flags and emphasizing the principle of decolonization. These rallies were held in response to a draft resolution circulated by the United States at the UN Security Council, which Sahrawi authorities condemned as an attempt to bypass international law. The Polisario Front has declared that it would withdraw from the peace process should this text be adopted, urging Security Council members to fulfill their responsibilities regarding the Sahrawi people's rights.
