Algeria's 2027 Budget: A Historic Shift Toward Economic Expansion

The 2027 Finance Bill, approved by the Council of Ministers chaired by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, represents the largest budget in the country's history. With planned expenditure reaching 17,882.6 billion dinars, the government aims for a growth rate of 4.2% while keeping inflation around 4%. The budget prioritizes social welfare, allocating over 6,087 billion dinars for public wages, which includes the creation of 125,675 new jobs, primarily in education and health. Financial support for essential commodities, such as sugar, oil, and flour, remains a priority with a dedicated 120 billion dinars, alongside funding for the national pension system. A major infrastructure drive is also included, targeting the construction of one million housing units. The financial framework is built on a 80-dollar oil reference price, despite projections of declining hydrocarbon revenues. The bill has been referred to Parliament, which has 75 days to debate and ratify the legislation.
