US military operations: A heavy toll of human and economic damage in Yemen
Since the September 11, 2001, attacks, US-led or supported military interventions have resulted in more than 387,000 civilian deaths globally. In Yemen specifically, aerial strikes conducted since December 2023 have left at least 576 civilians dead or wounded across 46 separate attacks. The bombardments have targeted essential infrastructure, including homes, agricultural lands, and commercial facilities, severely undermining the nation's economy and future development. While the White House frequently dismisses such losses as "collateral damage," critics point to the long-term instability caused by these actions. Ongoing deployments, such as operations "Prosperity Guardian" and "Rough Rider," continue to face scrutiny for their detrimental impact on regional stability and the livelihoods of local residents.
