Agriculture Strategy 2029: Production Outlook and Sector Challenges
The Ministry of Agriculture has revealed its production forecasts for 2029, highlighting the hurdles hindering its goals. The potato sector remains the most challenging, with a 9.5% decline between 2024 and 2025 due to unstable seed supply and post-harvest losses, prompting the ministry to implement a dynamic regulation mechanism for planting and harvesting schedules. For industrial tomatoes, the ministry aims to expand cultivation to 28,000 hectares to reach over 33 million quintals by 2029, while focusing on storage capacity. In the pulses sector, production is projected to hit 575,000 quintals, with plans to expand areas to 150,000 hectares within a crop rotation system. Meanwhile, despite constraints like limited agricultural land and delayed fruit tree productivity, the vineyard and stone fruit sectors are expected to see moderate growth by 2029 through the implementation of strategic sectoral measures.
