CAF President Patrice Motsepe has announced the reversal of the decision to shift the Africa Cup of Nations to a four-year cycle, confirming a return to the biennial format. This move is intended to protect the interests of the 54 member associations and professional players. The organization explained that the proposed African Nations League project currently lacks the financial stability needed to boost the competitiveness of African football. The upcoming tournament schedule includes host nations Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda for 2027, followed by editions in 2028, 2031, and 2033. There will be no tournament in 2030 to avoid conflict with the FIFA World Cup, respecting international football governing body standards.
