Foughala hosts cultural festival to celebrate date harvesting season
On Saturday, October 24, 2026, the municipality of Foughala in Biskra celebrated the date harvest through the cultural event titled "My Grandfather's Skill... A Trust I Keep." Organized by the Directorate of Culture and Arts, the festival aims to preserve intangible heritage and traditional techniques. Organizers highlighted that the event transcends the agricultural aspect, focusing on collective memory, social solidarity, and the "Touiza" tradition among local farmers. The festival featured exhibitions of various date varieties, traditional clothing, and local crafts, alongside equestrian displays and live demonstrations of traditional harvesting methods. Local stakeholders expressed hope that the event would become an annual fixture, further promoting the cultural significance and global reputation of the region's Deglet Nour dates.
