Polisario Front Urges European Nations to Align Policies with International Principles
Sidi Mohamed Omar, the Polisario Front's UN representative, addressed the recent Security Council deadlock following the Russian veto of the U.S.-backed resolution on Western Sahara. He stated that this outcome highlights the failure of unilateral approaches that disregard international law. The diplomat expressed strong disapproval of UN envoy Staffan de Mistura, accusing him of bias, and condemned the U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty as illegal and detrimental to peace efforts. He further criticized European members of the Council for failing to support the Russian proposal, urging them to demonstrate consistency with their own principles and the rulings of the European Court of Justice regarding the right to self-determination.
