Constantine: Livestock markets closed temporarily to prevent Foot-and-Mouth Disease
The governor of Constantine has ordered the closure of all livestock markets, including cattle, sheep, and goats, for an initial period of 15 days starting October 28, 2026. This preventative measure follows the confirmation of Foot-and-Mouth Disease cases in other regions and directives from national veterinary services. The decree prohibits the gathering and transport of livestock within or across the province, with the exception of animals destined for slaughter provided they carry official veterinary certificates. Breeders are urged to implement strict biosecurity measures, sanitize their facilities, and report any symptoms immediately. Violations of these regulations will be subject to legal penalties to protect the national livestock sector.
