Western Sahara: Algeria pushes for decolonization at Russia-Africa Summit
At the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune declared that peace and stability in Africa depend on resolving the Western Sahara issue, which remains the continent's last unaddressed case of decolonization. In a speech delivered by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, the President reaffirmed the importance of self-determination for the Sahrawi people. He acknowledged Russia's consistent support for the United Nations-led process aimed at finding a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution. Furthermore, the President warned against foreign interference in African domestic affairs, arguing that stability must be based on national sovereignty and inclusive dialogue rather than external imposition. He concluded by emphasizing that sustainable security in Africa requires progress in inclusive socio-economic development.
