Morocco outlines new strategy on Western Sahara through parliament
The Moroccan Parliament is set to hold a joint session on November 2 to formalize the Kingdom's evolving stance on Western Sahara. By invoking Article 68 of the Constitution, the government aims to give national political weight to royal directives. This new approach rests on three pillars: seeking the departure of the MINURSO mission to de-internationalize the dispute, challenging the institutional oversight of the UN Security Council, and reviewing international commitments, specifically the 1991 ceasefire agreements. While Rabat pursues this deep shift in its diplomatic framework, concerns regarding the security implications of ending the UN presence persist.
