Hot air balloon festival lights up the sky over Timimoun
Timimoun, known as the Red Oasis, hosted a unique aerial display this Thursday as hot air balloons drifted over the dunes. This spectacle is part of the first International Balloon and Giant Kite Festival, which runs from Wednesday until October 31st. Held under the patronage of the local governor and in partnership with the Riah w Taslia agency, the event has attracted around twenty international participants. The festivities began with a balloon featuring the Algerian flag, with further activities including kite competitions and traditional musical performances. Renowned for its ancient architecture, foggaras, and UNESCO-listed Ahellil chanting, Timimoun remains a premier Saharan tourism destination, having welcomed over 4,500 foreign and 30,000 domestic tourists during the 2024/2025 season.
