Algeria's National Blood Agency prioritizes digital transformation
The National Blood Agency (ANS) is prioritizing digitalization to improve its operational efficiency, according to Director General Prof. Issam Frigaa. Following directives from the Ministry of Health, the agency aims to modernize its management by leveraging experience from the Mustapha Pacha University Hospital blood center. Key initiatives include a new dual-identification system for donors and blood donations, designed to enhance product traceability and establish a national database. The agency currently faces challenges in monitoring inventory, with stock assessments requiring up to 48 hours to complete. A digitized system will enable real-time tracking of blood reserves across the country's 277 facilities. During 2025, Algeria collected over 741,000 blood donations across 270 structures, underscoring the urgent need for robust digital tools to ensure effective patient care.
