UN Fourth Committee: Algeria calls for the completion of decolonization in Western Sahara

During the proceedings of the UN Fourth Committee in New York, the Algerian delegation reaffirmed that Western Sahara remains a territory awaiting the completion of its decolonization process. Samir Bouaziz emphasized that the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination is inalienable and cannot be replaced by external arrangements. Algeria urged the UN to fulfill its political and legal responsibilities, including the effective implementation of the MINURSO mission. Other Algerian representatives highlighted the ongoing exploitation of natural resources in the occupied territories and the urgent need for international human rights monitoring. While the Algerian delegation advocated for international legality, the Moroccan delegation repeatedly attempted to disrupt the hearings, leading to formal protests from various participating delegations.
