Jordanian Airstrikes in Syria: Civilian Casualties and Closure of Nassib Crossing
The Jordanian army conducted an aerial operation in southern Syria, designated "Jordanian Deterrence – Hamoud," targeting what it described as terrorist strongholds. The military stated that the mission was in retaliation for the deaths occurred last Friday at the Hamoud church in Karak, reporting that several members of these organizations were killed or wounded. Conversely, the Syrian Emergency Ministry reported 8 fatalities—including three children, three men, and a woman—along with three injuries following strikes on four locations. Damascus emphasized that there was no prior coordination with Jordan and noted that communications are ongoing to address the field developments. In response to the situation, Syrian customs authorities announced a full suspension of passenger and commercial traffic at the Nassib border crossing on Tuesday, citing the need to ensure the safety of travelers and staff.
