Financial Crisis at Olympique de Marseille: Gouiri and Abdelli Refuse Pay Cuts
Olympique de Marseille is facing a severe financial crisis, leading the club's management to request salary reductions from players to settle mounting debts. Algerian internationals Amine Gouiri and Himad Abdelli have declined this proposal. The club is under pressure from the French National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG), which has threatened penalties including transfer bans, points deductions, or even relegation if financial equilibrium is not restored. The UEFA had also previously warned the club regarding exclusion from the 2026-2027 Europa League due to outstanding debts. Gouiri, whose contract runs until 2029 with an annual salary of 3.24 million euros, and Abdelli, under contract until 2030 with a salary of 1.80 million euros, insist on maintaining their current pay levels.
