Algeria diversifies its oil export markets in 2026
During the first nine months of 2026, Algeria expanded its oil product export footprint to eight different countries, shipping approximately 3.4 million barrels. Despite this geographical diversification, which included destinations such as Oman, Indonesia, the United States, Bulgaria, Libya, Taiwan, Egypt, and Guinea, total export volumes fell by 3.9% to an average of 298,000 barrels per day, down from 310,000 in the same period of 2025. Oman and Indonesia emerged as major recipients of these irregular shipments, highlighting Algeria's commercial flexibility. While the country has successfully penetrated markets it had not supplied for years, these remain sporadic shipments rather than long-term contractual arrangements. Meanwhile, South Korea, the United States, and Japan remain the top importers, despite shifting demand levels compared to the previous year.
