Latvia probes 'Golden Visa' scheme over suspected investment fraud
Latvian authorities have launched an investigation into a company named Lights Medical, which allegedly offers residency permits in exchange for a 50,000-euro investment in a senior care facility project called 'Gaismas'. Local officials in Mārupe district have raised concerns, noting that no construction or development has taken place at the site since the property was acquired in 2022. Consequently, the Interior Ministry has instructed the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs and financial intelligence units to determine if the firm is legitimately operating or misusing the country’s residency-by-investment program, which is being marketed as a gateway to the Schengen area.
