Cancer Care: Algeria Expands Healthcare Infrastructure and Screening Efforts

The Ministry of Health has underscored the state's commitment to enhancing cancer care through infrastructure expansion and the integration of medical innovations. Marking the launch of the national breast cancer screening campaign, officials highlighted the necessity of comprehensive patient support. Breast cancer, with 14,074 new annual cases, accounts for 45% of cancer diagnoses among women. To address this, Algeria operates 15 specialized cancer centers and 24 radiotherapy units, with plans to further increase capacity by 2028, including the addition of new linear accelerators and 52 innovative treatment protocols. A dedicated cancer fund has been allocated 73 billion DZD, with ongoing annual funding to ensure sustained efforts in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, aligning with the national directive to prioritize cancer care as a public health imperative.
