Renewed settler incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque amid restrictions on Muslim worshippers
Dozens of Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Tuesday morning, conducting provocative tours and performing Talmudic rituals under heavy security protection. Access for Muslim worshippers was severely restricted, as police confiscated ID cards at the mosque gates. These incursions follow a period of heightened activity over the previous two days during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, during which a record 1,678 settlers entered the site. Senior officials, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, participated in the tours, marking his twentieth visit to the site since taking office. The recent escalation included public religious rites, the use of ritual items, and a general tightening of access to the Old City of Jerusalem. Palestinian authorities have condemned these practices as a deliberate attempt to alter the historical and legal status quo of the holy site.
