Western Sahara: Polisario Front threatens to withdraw from peace process
The Polisario Front has warned that it will be forced to completely withdraw from the Western Sahara peace process if the UN Security Council adopts the current draft resolution without significant amendments. Sidi Mohamed Amar, the movement's UN representative, reaffirmed that they will not accept any approach that undermines the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and independence. Labeling specific provisions in the draft as 'red lines,' he urged the Security Council to return to the original UN-African Union settlement plan. Amar further criticized the inclusion of the Moroccan perspective in the drafting of the text, cautioning that any attempt to predetermine the political outcome would lead the movement to abandon the peace efforts entirely.
