Road safety statistics show improvement in Algeria

The National Road Safety Delegation reported a decline in traffic accident indicators in Algeria during the first eight months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Records show 18,297 bodily injury accidents, a decrease of 89 cases, while fatalities dropped by 71 and injuries by 511. Youth aged 18 to 29 are identified as the demographic most frequently involved and impacted. Additionally, motorcyclists were responsible for 27.55% of total accidents, despite representing only 6.55% of the national vehicle fleet. Lack of caution, excessive speed, and pedestrian inattention remain the leading causes of these accidents.
