African Energy Bank Launched with $5 Billion Capital
The African Energy Bank has been established following a founding general assembly in Abuja, Nigeria, led by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO). With an authorized capital of $5 billion, the new financial entity is tasked with supporting the entire energy value chain, ranging from exploration and production to refining and distribution. The initiative seeks to decrease reliance on petroleum imports and bolster intra-African energy trade. During the assembly, attended by high-level representatives from various nations, Helmy Ghazi was appointed as the bank's first president. This institution aims to bridge the estimated $200 billion funding gap in the continent's energy sector by attracting investments from governments, national oil companies, and private investors to secure Africa's energy future.
