Algerian insurance sector records 3% growth in H1 2026
The Algerian insurance sector grew by 3% in the first half of 2026, reaching a total turnover of 102.8 billion dinars, according to the National Insurance Council. Damage insurance accounted for the majority of the market at 79.6%, while personal insurance reached 13% and international acceptances hit 6.6%. The Takaful insurance sector also showed activity with 70,127 contracts and contributions totaling 876.8 million dinars. Damage insurance turnover rose to 81.8 billion dinars, with a 4.4% increase in the number of contracts. The Council attributes this positive trend to growth in the automobile, agricultural, and transport sectors, which helped offset declines in specialized branches like fire and credit insurance.
