Algeria and South Africa forge a new roadmap for strategic cooperation

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and his South African counterpart, Ronald Lamola, have established a new operational framework to ensure that bilateral commitments yield measurable results. Following the 7th Bilateral Commission held in December 2024, both nations are preparing for the 8th session, which will be led by Presidents Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Cyril Ramaphosa. The cooperation focuses on boosting trade, activating the Business Council, and enhancing logistical links, such as direct air travel and maritime connections between Djen Djen and Durban ports. Priority sectors include energy, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and digital technology, with a strong emphasis on African sovereignty and technology transfer regarding critical minerals. Furthermore, both countries continue to align their positions on international issues, advocating for the right to self-determination and the reform of the UN Security Council to better reflect the continent's interests.
