Spanish health authorities reject multiple Moroccan seafood shipments
During the month of October, Spain issued three health alerts regarding seafood products arriving from Morocco due to safety and storage concerns. The most recent incident involved the destruction of a surimi shipment last week after regulators identified temperature control failures during transport, an issue reported to European authorities on October 21. Previously, on October 13, a shipment of swordfish was destroyed following the discovery of the Anisakis parasite, which can cause digestive issues. Additionally, on October 15, Salmonella bacteria were detected in samples of fishmeal. These repeated alerts highlight ongoing challenges regarding the compliance of Moroccan seafood products with European safety and quality standards.
