Fisheries and Aquaculture: A Strategic Vision Through 2028
The General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture has outlined its core priorities heading toward 2028, focusing on increasing production, expanding aquaculture projects—including in Saharan regions—and supporting youth employment through micro-enterprises. Vocational training remains a pillar of this policy, with nine specialized institutes providing instruction in fields like maritime navigation, underwater welding, and engine maintenance. A key highlight of the 2024 initiatives is the professional experience recognition program, which allows seasoned fishermen without formal degrees to validate their skills; the program has already achieved a 70% success rate. Furthermore, the sector is prioritizing maritime safety through collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Transport and is fostering inter-departmental cooperation to modernize professional standards and diversify aquatic-related trades.
