Mostaganem Port completes the removal of the "Essalem" shipwreck
The Mostaganem Port Authority has announced the successful removal of the wreckage of the fishing vessel "Essalem AL 227," clearing the first port basin of long-standing obstacles. This initiative was carried out under the directives of the Minister of Transport and the Serport group to enhance port safety and operational readiness. The vessel sank in early 2015 following a collision near dock 1; due to structural deterioration, it could not be salvaged by traditional towing methods. Consequently, the port management implemented a systematic dismantling process, which began in early 2026 and concluded on October 27. The removal now allows for the resumption of dock rehabilitation works and improved vessel berthing efficiency.
