Tamanrasset: Second phase of nuclear waste cleanup at Béryl site begins
The Algerian Ministry of National Defense has launched the second phase of the decontamination process at the E2 Béryl site in In Ekker, Tamanrasset. Commencing during the 72nd anniversary of the November Revolution, the project relies entirely on national expertise and logistics. This operation, coordinated with the National Agency for the Rehabilitation of Nuclear Sites, follows the French side's refusal to provide disposal site maps or acknowledge its legal responsibilities regarding radioactive waste. Algerian authorities have mobilized significant resources to ensure the cleanup, adhering to international safety standards, which involve identifying radioactive zones and securely storing waste in specialized concrete containers.
