In recent months, Morocco has accelerated its security and military engagement with Khalifa Haftar's forces in eastern Libya, amid regional shifts regarding the succession of the Libyan commander. This evolution aligns with a tripartite coordination involving the UAE and Israel, whose interests converge within the Libyan theater. Following official military visits and high-level security meetings between Moroccan intelligence officials and the Haftar family in Benghazi, it has become clear that political ambitions are at play. Saddam Haftar has been active in expanding international ties, reportedly including meetings with Israeli officials, while managing complex dynamics with Egypt and domestic family rivalries. Rabat views this partnership as a strategic gateway to exert influence in the region. This convergence of interests between Morocco, the UAE, and Israel around Benghazi poses significant regional challenges, particularly for Algeria, which is currently reinforcing its own security measures along its borders to contain cross-border threats and protect its national interests.
