Confronting the rhetoric of division in contemporary France
Fayçal Kaddour, deputy mayor of Vitry-sur-Seine, has highlighted the political and media accountability regarding the hostile climate facing certain segments of French society. He criticizes the persistent stigmatization of Muslims, immigrants, and residents of low-income neighborhoods, which are often portrayed as threats to national security. The author argues that by mimicking far-right discourse to gain electoral advantages, political actors inadvertently normalize hatred and undermine social cohesion. Kaddour asserts that the French Republic belongs to all its citizens equally, regardless of their background, and calls for an end to the rhetoric that casts doubt on the belonging of millions of French people.
