Western Sahara: The Sahrawi people assert sovereignty and reject foreign dictates on their future
International concerns are mounting over a US initiative within the UN Security Council, known as the "zero draft," regarding the conflict in Western Sahara. This move is being criticized as a departure from international legitimacy and a disregard for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination. The Polisario Front, the legitimate representative of the Sahrawis, maintains that the territory's future cannot be determined by external powers or colonial schemes. Drawing on their struggle since 1973, the Sahrawi people affirm that their sovereignty is absolute and non-negotiable. They argue that attempts to impose a Moroccan colonial reality undermine regional security and weaken the credibility of international law. The movement insists that genuine peace depends on ending the occupation and ensuring a free, fair, and democratic referendum for the Sahrawi population.
