Forestry protection: Algeria plans to acquire 140 locally-made drones
To enhance forest surveillance and fire prevention efforts, the General Directorate of Forests (DGF) is planning to procure 140 locally-manufactured drones. Said Fritas, the official in charge of forest heritage protection, stated that this project aims to integrate advanced monitoring equipment into their operations. The DGF has already secured 35 drones, including 20 'Aurès 700' units produced by the military-affiliated EDPSTA, and has trained 85 forest rangers to operate them. Additionally, the 2026 summer season saw the implementation of other technological solutions, such as the 'LIDAR' remote sensing system and an early warning system developed by the Algerian start-up 'Basseer'.
