French ports face major disruptions due to 24-hour strike
French ports are experiencing widespread shutdowns today, Friday, following a 24-hour strike initiated by the CGT's dockworkers' union. Tony Hautbois, general secretary of the union, stated that 95% of port activity has ceased, as workers were instructed to halt all loading and unloading operations. At the port of Le Havre, entrances were clear of traffic early this morning. The industrial action is a protest against specific government budget measures that the union claims undermine social solidarity. Additionally, the union has announced it will join a national strike scheduled for November 5th, demanding higher wages and the protection of public sectors, including healthcare, education, and social security systems.
