Algerian Insurance Sector Faces Backlog of Over 1.5 Million Claims
As of June 30, 2026, insurance companies in Algeria were managing a backlog of 1,566,293 unsettled claims, with an estimated value of 132.8 billion dinars. This pending liability exceeds the sector's total turnover for the first half of the year, which stood at 102.8 billion dinars. Despite a 22.1% increase in payouts, reaching 44.1 billion dinars, the settlement rate remains low at 24.9% by value. The automotive sector accounts for the majority of the pending claims, whereas the Fire and Miscellaneous Risks (IRD) category holds over 50% of the financial burden. The National Insurance Council identifies the management of these claims as a critical operational challenge for the industry.
