Algeria: National reforestation campaign to plant 1.2 million trees
Director General of Forests, Djamel Touahria, announced from Jijel that a nationwide program is underway to plant 1.2 million seedlings during the 2026-2027 season. Jijel was selected as the symbolic starting point for the campaign due to the severe damage inflicted on its forest cover by wildfires last summer. According to Touahria, the project emphasizes planting tree species with significant economic and nutritional value, such as carob, olive, and chestnut trees, aiming to benefit local residents and the province’s overall economy.
