In his new book, "President Liamine Zeroual: Career and Example," former wali Bachir Frik provides documented testimonies regarding the life and leadership of the former Algerian president, based on accounts from individuals who witnessed his military and political journey. The book covers Zeroual's family origins in the Aures region, his early involvement in the War of Independence, and his distinguished military training abroad. It highlights significant ethical stances taken during the revolution, his progression through military ranks, and his presidency during a critical phase of Algerian history. The author also addresses the behind-the-scenes political conflicts during Zeroual's tenure, including his complex relationship with his advisor Mohamed Betchine and the reasons behind his decision to step down before the end of his term, noting that he had planned his withdrawal long before the political crises of that era.
