Algiers Ranks First in Africa on the "Gigacity 2026" Index

Algiers has been ranked as the leading African city and 34th globally in the "Gigacity 2026" index, released by the British firm Omdia, which measures broadband network performance across 50 major cities. Positioned in the silver category, Algiers outperformed regional hubs such as Cape Town and Cairo. The city owes this achievement to its near 100% fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) coverage and high-performance metrics, with 90% of subscribers enjoying speeds exceeding 100 Mbit/s. This recognition follows significant state investment in digital infrastructure and the national strategy to modernize telecommunications networks.
