France deploys 70,000 police officers as protests loom
France is bracing for a new wave of nationwide protests this Saturday, amid rising concerns over the possibility of renewed violence following last weekend's unrest. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announced the mobilization of 70,000 police and gendarmerie personnel across the country. The security operation includes local forces, mobile units, and elite teams from the national police, specifically RAID and BRI. Furthermore, aerial support via helicopters, as well as armored vehicles and water cannons, have been prepared. During a press conference, Nuñez highlighted calls from the far-left on social media targeting public buildings, noting that these demonstrations are not expected to be peaceful. He emphasized that the state is prepared to take a very firm stance and will not tolerate any misconduct.
