Polisario Front comments on UN Security Council meeting regarding MINURSO

The Polisario Front has welcomed the failure of the US-proposed resolution on the UN mission in Western Sahara (MINURSO) following a Russian veto. In an official statement, the Front asserted that the text would have undermined the UN-led peace process and threatened regional stability. The movement expressed its gratitude to Russia, Algeria, and nations that abstained from the vote. Conversely, the Polisario criticized the deadlock at the Security Council, accusing the US of aligning with Moroccan positions. It warned against any unilateral attempts to alter the mandate of the mission, which was established in 1991 based on mutual agreement. The Polisario reaffirmed its commitment to cooperating with UN efforts to achieve a fair and lasting decolonization of the territory.
