Brussels Protest Calls for Release of Gdeim Izik Detainees
The Sahrawi community in Belgium and the association 'Western Sahara is not for sale' held a protest on Saturday in Brussels' Luxembourg Square, in front of the European Parliament. Participants demanded the release of Sahrawi political prisoners and reaffirmed the right to self-determination. The event coincides with upcoming UN Security Council discussions regarding the MINURSO mission mandate. Protesters highlighted the dire conditions faced by Sahrawi civil prisoners in Moroccan jails, specifically noting the indefinite hunger strike launched by the Gdeim Izik group. Speakers emphasized that the Polisario Front remains the sole legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people and called for continued international solidarity to secure the freedom and national rights of the Sahrawi cause.
