Beni Maouche hosts the 22nd Dried Fig Festival with record participation

The 22nd edition of the Dried Fig Festival is currently being held in Beni Maouche, Béjaïa, featuring 220 exhibitors from 32 provinces to mark the event's 30th anniversary. Most of the exhibition space highlights dried figs, while 23 local producers are now showcasing their products under the protected 'Beni Maouche' geographical label. Agricultural officials reported an annual production of approximately 148,000 quintals across 7,770 hectares, with plans to expand planting in 2026. The festival program includes expert-led seminars on fig tree health and a cooking competition. Additionally, the local authorities are working on compensation procedures for farmers whose orchards were damaged by wildfires last summer.
