Algeria taps into diaspora expertise for environmental projects
Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kaouther Krikou, and Professor Elias Zerhouni, coordinator of the High Council of the National Scientific Community Abroad, have agreed to establish a specialized task force to provide technical and scientific support for ministry initiatives. This collaboration, which also involved Professor Mustapha Khiati, aims to leverage the expertise of Algerian professionals living abroad in key areas such as circular economy, biodiversity, pollution control, and climate change mitigation. This initiative follows presidential instructions to involve the diaspora in the nation's technical development. The minister highlighted several ongoing projects, including the management of seawater desalination byproducts, water purification, and the development of a national platform to catalog and protect approximately 27,000 biological species, welcoming the potential contribution of expatriate experts to these efforts.
