Launch of a major national research network to advance animal production and health
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, has launched a thematic research network for animal production and health in Algiers. The initiative brings together over 300 researchers, professors, and 100 PhD students across 70 laboratories and research centers. The network aims to bolster national food security through technological innovation and the development of livestock resources. It emphasizes institutional integration, collaboration with the agricultural sector, and the involvement of the national scientific diaspora. Key projects include developing a hybrid sheep breed, creating new animal feeds, and executing three research agreements focusing on genetics, livestock disease management, and natural alternatives to antibiotics in poultry farming. Initial outcomes are expected within six months.
